When angels deserve to die...

Some people said, an eternal question deserves a timeless answer. Is this the end of the world? Well, looking at all the so-called ‘evidences’ and ‘clues’, yes, I’m pretty sure that we are heading to the end of the world. To begin with, take a look at our old and beloved mother-nature a.k.a. the earth. How old is she anyway? Very old indeed. Scientists believe that the earth age is around 4 billions years old! Think she can stand for another 1 billion years? Not a chance! With all the developments that take place in this modern world today, she’ll be lucky if she can survive for at least another 100 years.

Face it. We produce tones of carbon monoxide every single day. The earth is bleeding from the inside because of it. NASA recently launched their space shuttle to the space and they managed to take few pictures of the earth. When those pictures were compared to pictures that were taken around 30 years ago, they found out that the range of water that covers the earth has increased dramatically. The original percentage of the land and water that cover this planet was 40% of land and 60% of water. Now, it is around 80% of the earth is being covered with water. Why is this happening? It is because of the global warming phenomenon that was triggered by the ‘green-house effect’ that unfortunately, was triggered by us.

Global warming has causes the huge ice blocks in North and South Pole to melt thus increasing the sea level all over the world, most notably in the Atlantic Ocean. If it not because of this, the tsunami disaster that hit Acheh in 2004 would not have been so devastating. It is true that earthquake produces tsunami but the level of it destructiveness would not have been as strong as the one that occur before, if it is not because of the amount of water that we have in our seas these days.

Other than that, do we actually noticed how often it is for us in hearing about earthquakes and hurricanes that happens all over the world nowadays? It is so common that we are getting tired to care about it anymore. Earthquakes happen in Indonesia followed by Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Than we have hurricanes hitting various parts of the United States, being given all these beautiful names such as Katrina, Rita, Ophelia and the latest one, Wilma. Again, why are these natural disasters are raging upon us? It is because the earth eco-system is not in balance as it was before.

To make things worse, we are expecting an outbreak of a pandemic of the avian flu that will hit us in a short period of time. The last outbreak such as this lastly recorded after the end of World War I when nearly 150 million people died because of it. This new breed of virus is of course, a lot stronger that its predecessor. Currently, as I’m writing this article, it is in the process of mutating itself into a new form that our scientists are yet to discover the antidote. This avian flu is expected to take around 200 to 250 millions of lives when it outbreaks begins, and already sending signal in Asia and Europe when a couple of people already died in countries such as Thailand, China, Turkey and Romania.

We, Malaysian, are lucky because our geographical factor still protect us from these horrendous natural disasters although, not for a very long time. The chain has been broken and we should expect to have earthquakes or hurricanes in a few years time. With all these facts, it is pretty clear for us that the end of the world is very near upon us. For Muslims, this is expected since it is written in the holy Quran that one day, the world will eventually ends. However, lets not give up hope yet and work together in saving the planet. Although it is still uncertain whether we will succeed, at least, we save something for the future generations to cherish for. Save our planet!
