magnificent 7

Premiership is heading towards its end. What a season it was to all the football fanatics all over the world. The newly crowned English champion, Chelsea has a lot to celebrate this season since they managed to do the double, winning the Premier League and the League Cup, which they did a couple of months ago against Liverpool.

As for my favorite team, Arsenal, it’s a bit sad that we did not managed to defend our title that we won last season but I personally think that it would be a better feeling by seeing Chelsea lift the trophy rather than the rubbish MU. We maybe lost the title this season but, the most important things of all is to finish the season ahead of MU, and that really shows the different class that we belongs to. Since Arsene Wenger took over in 1996, Arsenal never finished below than second place. It means, we either be a champion or a vice-champ. We never finished in third place like, I don’t know… MU perhaps?

Few days ago, the Red Devil was beaten by the Blues in their own ‘Theatre of Dreams’ (maybe they should call it ‘Theatre of Nightmares’) by the score line of 3-1. On the next day, Arsenal was playing against Everton in Highbury and guess what the score line is, we won by 7-0! That is a new record for the Gunners and also a new record in modern days EPL. There was a team that once won a game by 9-0 but that was a long time ago. I don’t even remember which team that was.

Arsenal party started when Robin van Persie scored a direct goal after managed to break the offside trap set by the Everton defenders. Robert Pires later heads a goal that took a deflection from one of his own shot. Just before the end of first half, Dennis Bergkamp plays a long ball to the skipper, Patrick Vieira who managed to finish the ball with a magnificent lob over the goalkeeper.

Arsene Wenger did a couple of changes in second half when he took van Persie and Vieira off to be replaced by ‘King Henry’ and young Frenchman, Mathieu Flamini. The game started just a few minutes before Pires scores another goal that makes his tally of goals this season to 17 goals. The great winger later was substituted by the young Spanish hot shot, Francesc Fabregas. A handball in the penalty box later has given Arsenal their fifth goal when Edu deliberately took the penalty kick and put the ball behind the net. It was an emotional moment because it would be the last goal from the Brazilian since he will be leaving this summer.

The massacre has not over yet after the master playmaker, Dennis Bergkamp who’s been supplying goals for his teammates scores one of his own. For a striker, it is hard to believe that this guy is already 36 years old! With this goal, Bergkamp surely will be offered another one-year contract with the Gunners. Retiring? You must be joking! Arsenal historical night ended with a goal from the youngster Flamini who managed to finish the passing provided by the Spanish high flyer, Jose Antonio Reyes.

The game ended with Arsene Wenger having the biggest smile I’ve ever seen and of course, the embarrassed David Moyes. Well, how could you blame him? The fourth best team in the Premiership was hammered 7-0 by Arsenal. Anyway, this has been a great season although we didn’t managed to win the title. One thing for sure, we will come back with even stronger and hungrier team. Chelsea, enjoy the trophy coz its not going to be long before we will win it back!
